Labor Migration and Human Trafficking in Jordan - Study

Migrant workers are vital to Jordan’s economy yet face systemic challenges. This paper explores their legal, economic, and social realities, highlights policy gaps, and offers solutions like reforming the kafala system and improving labor protections.

This study uncovers the suffering and violations faced by irregular female migrant domestic workers in Jordan. From the exploitation of the kafala system to the legal barriers hindering their access to justice, this study highlights the severe abuses endured by these workers.

This paper aims to analyze the current kafala system and provide human rights-based alternatives that ensure the protection of domestic workers' rights and enhance their working conditions. The paper also seeks to provide practical recommendations for Jordanian authorities and civil society to develop fairer and more effective policies.

This study analyzes migrant workers’ accessibility to social protection programs in Jordan.  

The study assess the recruitment procedures implemented in Jordan, and whether they are compatible with both international framework, and national legislations.

The position paper address the migrants’ right to resign in Jordan. Tamkeen for Legal Aid and Human Rights based the paper on its compiled cases in the past years. This issue affects migrants working in a number of sectors, especially in beauty salons (manicure and pedicure workers), QIZ workers, and also Egyptian workers in particular.

The study highlights an important issue both at the national and international levels. It provides a statistical and legal analysis of human trafficking cases of Jordanian courts. The study also sheds light on the procedures followed by such cases, its perpetrators and potential victims.
