Lina Isma'il

Lina Isma'il, an MSc. graduate in Environmental Sciences Policy and Management, and an environmental and community activist in the fields of food sovereignty and agroecology. She is a co-founder of the Palestinian Agroecological Forum (PAF), which is concerned with spreading the philosophy and practice of agroecology as a basis for achieving food sovereignty and preserving nature.

Lina co-authored two editions of the Heinrich Böll Foundation- Palestine and Jordan publication "Conscious Choices: A Guide to Ethical Shopping in Palestine", in 2014 and 2020, which discuss the concept of ethical consumption and its national, economic, social, health & environmental dimensions in the Palestinian context, highlighting the importance of preserving Palestinian heritage and identity through supporting local producers.

In her previous work capacities, she supervised the production of several studies on Food Sovereignty in Palestine, including “Palestinian National Food Sovereignty in light of the Colonial Context” and “Status of Farmers in Border Areas in the Gaza Strip from a Food Sovereignty Perspective” as well as the documentary “Untold Revolution: Food Sovereignty in Palestine”.

As a 2023 Bertha Foundation Fellow, Lina is currently working on a film investigating the complex challenges in food production systems in addition to showcasing the growing food sovereignty movement in Palestine.
