Press release With joy and pride Heinrich Boell Foundation Palestine & Jordan congratulates the two scholars of the Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS) on receiving awards from the World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES) and the State of Palestine, respectively.
The IPS is the oldest institute in the world researching and publicizing on Palestinian affairs and the Arab-Israeli conflict. Hbs Palestine & Jordan supports PJS’s annual conferences and contributes to the publication of the Jerusalem Quarterly magazine.
Rashid Khalidi received the quadrennial WOCMES Seville 2018 Award for Outstanding Contributions to Middle Eastern Studies. He is the Editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies and Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University. The announcement of WOCMES states that “Khalidi is the highest authority on interpretations of the Arab-Jewish and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts. It is impossible to understand this region and its historical experiences without Khalidi’s works”.
Salim Tamari, Professor of Sociology at Birzeit University, received the State of Palestine National Recognition Award for his collective body of work. He is the Editor of Jerusalem Quarterly, a Journal publicized by IPS and supported by the Heinrich Boell foundation office in Ramallah. He is also the author of several highly recommended books on the history of Jerusalem like the recently published “The Great War and the remaking of Palestine” on the last decade of the Ottoman Empire.
Hbs office Palestine & Jordan extends its warmest congratulations to Rashid Khalidi, Salim Tamari and our partner IPS.
