For more than a century, women around the world celebrate the 8th of March as International Women´s Day. From the early beginnings, when women in Europe, Russia and the United States demanded the right to vote and equal opportunities, this celebration has spread around the world and today it is recognized as the UN Day for women´s rights and world peace.
In Palestine and Jordan, even though equality is guaranteed in their respective constitutions, women still suffer from many forms of discrimination, legally, socially and culturally. Palestinian women also suffer from the occupation, now more than ever, as our partner Adameer shows in their report.
The Palestine/Jordan Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation stands by the women in the region and supports their just struggle for freedom, dignity and equal rights.
