Dr. Bettina Marx

Director

Dr. Bettina Marx  is the director of the HBS office in Ramallah since September 2015, she is a German journalist with extensive experience working in the Middle East. For more information please press on profile.

Nadeen Karkar

Head of Finance, Administration & Human Resources

Nadeen Karkar joined the team of hbs in April 2006 as the Financial Coordinator, and she is currently the Head of Finance, Administration & Human Resources. She holds a BA degree in accounting from Birzeit University, before joining the hbs Nadeen worked as a senior accountant in the Palestinian NGO Women's Affair Technical Committee in Ramallah. 

Suzan Awwad Abutteen

Webmaster & Assistant to Head of Finance & Administration

Suzan Awwad Abutteen is the webmaster & Assistant to Head of Finance & Administration, joined the team in April 2008. She graduated from the University of Birzeit with a degree in English language and literature in 2003. Previously Suzan worked for five years as an Administrative Assistant at Bisan Center for Research and Development.

Dr. Reham Alhelsi

Program Coordinator

Dr. Reham Alhelsi is the Program Coordinator for the “Democracy and Human Rights Program” and “Policy Analysis & Advocacy Program”, and is the Gender Focal Point. She has a PhD in Regional Planning and Politics from Karlsruhe University, Germany, and has around 20 years of diverse work experience, both in the public and civil society sectors, and worked with several Palestinian non-governmental organizations covering various fields, such as human rights issues, women's rights, public health, local governance, media and communication, advocacy and lobbying. Additionally, Reham is a human rights activist and an advocate for democracy, women’s rights and gender equality.

Nidal Atallah

Program Coordinator

Nidal Atallah is the Coordinator of the Environmental Justice Program as well as the coordinator of Communication & Visibility at Hbs Palestine & Jordan since May, 2018. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geo-sciences, minoring in Chemistry and Politics, from Earlham College, Indiana, USA and a Master’s degree in Engineering Geology from Kent State University, Ohio, USA. His professional experience in the water and environmental field in Palestine includes working as a researcher for the Palestinian Hydrology Group (PHG), a project developer at Development and Reconstruction Bureau (D.A.R.B Ltd), and as an instructor of Engineering Geology at Birzeit University’s Civil Engineering Department. Nidal is an advocate of Palestinian environmental and human rights.

Lara Kirchner

Program Coordinator

Lara Kirchner supports the team as a Program Coordinator and is mainly responsible for the coordination and further development of the HBS office’s program in Jordan. She holds a B.A. in African Development Studies in Geography that initially took her to the Middle East in order to conduct thesis-related researches on the creation of public space in the aftermath of the Arab Spring. She completed her LL.M. in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights and gathered work experience in the field of development cooperation in Egypt and Jordan.

In her free time Lara is undertaking extensive running exercises to capacitate herself for the participation in the upcoming Bethlehem marathon. 

Hadeel Riadi

Administrative Coordinator

Hadeel Riadi is the Administrative Coordinator in hbs Palestine & Jordan since July 2016. She holds a diploma degree in office management from the YMCA, and is continuing her BA in Accounting from Al Quds Open University. Previously, she had worked as a secretary in a security company.

A Space for new Ideas, Discussions and Exchange

 

The hbs Palestine/ Jordan office in Ramallah opens the doors to its new rooftop conference room. We invite activist groups and NGOs, who share the values of the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation, to use the meeting room free of charge. It provides space for around 35 people and includes the possibility to project presentations or films.  It has a wonderful, wide view from Ramallah to Jerusalem.

The room is available during our office hours from Saturday to Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In exceptional cases and with prior agreement meetings are possible outside of the office hours.

The hbs office in Ramallah opened in 1999. It currently operates as a regional office with responsibility for Palestine and Jordan. The activities of hbs are guided by the fundamental political values of universal human rights, ecology, democracy, solidarity, and non-violence. The hbs office Ramallah is working in close partnership with currently more than 20 local partner organizations in Gaza, East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Jordan.

Green Economy is a source of both hope and controversy. It fosters the hope that we can hang on to our current high standard of material prosperity.

On 2nd October 2017, we celebrated with all our partners and friends the closing of our EU funded project "Advancing the Rights of Vulnerable Palestinian Women and Children in East Jerusalem"
